The mission of the Black Leadership
Commission on AIDS of Buffalo is to mobilize and educate
African-American leaders in the City of Buffalo to respond to HIV/AIDS
and public health, to enhance the African-American communities’ access
wherever public policy is deliberated and resources are allocated, and
to serve as advocates and provide support to frontline agencies in their
daily war on AIDS in Buffalo communities. Through the leadership, the BLCA of Buffalo will work to ensure the equitable allocation of
resources for the African American community and to enhance the capacity
of local direct service organizations. BLCA of Buffalo will develop
plans together and engage in joint advocacy at all levels of government
to protect and strengthen the public health and disease prevention
efforts of the City of Buffalo.
Black Churches Vital in AIDS
Fight

The African-American church is a vital partner in
the fight to combat ignorance and stem the spread of HIV/AIDS in
Buffalo’s black communities, said Donna Chapman, Buffalo coordinator for
the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS.
Chapman’s organization sponsored a series of prevention education
workshops Friday in Mount Olive Baptist Church, 701 E. Delavan Ave., as
part of the commission’s observance of the “Black Church Week of Prayer
for the Healing of AIDS.”
