The
National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS Capacity
Building Assistance (CBA) Program is funded by the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Description of the
Project
The
project is a leadership mobilization model targeting
African American leaders in five regions across the U.S.
to develop a coordinated response to HIV/AIDS among
indigenous leaders, CBOs, health departments and other
CBA consumers. It is designed as a structural
intervention based on the premise that African-American
leadership can establish organizational infrastructure
that supports collaboration and multiple local
initiatives. The model is intended to be a catalyst for
executing an unprecedented number of community actions
to promote HIV antibody testing and prevention education
services.
The
program has two phases: a demonstration project in each
of the five regions, followed by dissemination of the
program model throughout the regions. Both require long
term, hands-on development, application and services.
The program is led by Black clergy along with local
leaders, CDC-funded CBOs and health departments in all
regions. The NBLCA will also collaborate with other CBA
providers.
The
goal of this project is to deliver CBA to
African-American leadership, CDC-funded community-based
organizations, and other community stakeholders through
NBLCA’s “Leadership Mobilization Model” adapted from our
existing community leadership model. This is an
extensive hands-on approach, requiring consistent
contact with participants on the local level with
ongoing monitoring, and technical assistance services.
